We recently spoke with Elixir for an update on Republic, an ambitious strategy game that was one of the most impressive games we saw at E3. Game Republic in association with Screen Yorkshire is to host the Game Republic Student Showcase at the University of Bradford’s Norcroft Centre from 3 - 6pm on Tuesday 15th April. Representatives from some of the region’s leading games companies will gather to judge entries in categories for Technical Achievement, Game Art and Game Design prior to an awards ceremony, which will take place at a Game Republic event from 6pm at the National Media Museum in Bradford. The evening, entitled ‘A Licence to Kill: Licensing in Video Games’, will feature a panel discussion with representatives from the world of licensing, IP ownership and video games publishing. The speakers will include Aaron Ludlow from Mastertronic and Louise Handley of Lee & Priestley. The judging panel includes; Andy Gray (Zoo Digital Publishing), Ian Bowden (Rockstar), Elliot Gay (Gamerholix), Martyn Brown (Team 17), Toby Allen (Sumo Digital), Tim Wharton (Four Door Lemon), Ian Bowden (Rockstar Leeds) and George Bray (MumboJumbo). Game Republic, Yorkshire’s trade association for the games sector promotes and provides support to games companies based in Yorkshire and Humber. Last year, Game Republic, was fully integrated into Screen Yorkshire, who funded and launched the Game Republic Academy - the UK's first games academy, in Yorkshire.
